Victoria E. Remus is an associate in the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan office of Dykema. Mrs. Remus focuses her practice on taxation and estates where she works on estate planning in addition to tax planning and reporting.

Experience

Ms. Remus graduated from Michigan State University College of Law in 2015. While in law school, Ms. Remus was active in the Alvin L. Storrs Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic where she logged over 400 hours of work at the Clinic in one year. At the Clinic, Ms. Remus provided legal services to taxpayers who were in controversy with the Internal Revenue Services and their home state, generally the Michigan Department of Treasury. Those controversies included tax collection problems, liens and levies, offers in compromise and installment agreement innocent spouse claims, and claims related to deductions, exemptions and credits.

In addition to her work in the Clinic, Ms. Remus was a Student Assistant with the Michigan Department of Treasury in Lansing. She analyzed files of taxpayers who requested an informal hearing with the Department by researching facts and arguments as well as the Michigan Complied Laws and tax codes at issue. Ms. Remus made final recommendations to the Department based on her findings.

Ms. Remus spent her final semester of law school as a Student Legal Clerk for the Honorable Ronald L. Buch on the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. While there, she conducted legal research and analysis for current Tax Court cases related to individual income and business tax controversies. Ms. Remus drafted orders and a summary opinion related to the individual and business tax effects of a child's unauthorized incorporation of his father's business.

Prior to joining Dykema, Ms. Remus was a Senior Tax Consultant at an international Big 4 accounting firm where she focused on private client services. She oversaw the preparation of individual, trust, foundation and partnership returns for high net worth individuals, private businesses and foundations. Ms. Remus primarily focused on the preparation and review of gift returns that involved direct, non-direct, and generation skipping gifts as well as estate returns. Her work also included tax planning for estates, gifts, and individuals for high net worth clients.
