Why Professionalism and Civility are Important for Successful Mediations and Techniques to Deal with Unprofessional Participants, State Bar of Michigan Alternative Dispute Resolution Section Annual Conference

Sherrie Farrell will join a panel discussion at the State Bar of Michigan’s Annual Alternative Dispute Resolution Annual Conference, Section Awards, and Annual Meeting. The session, “Why Professionalism and Civility are Important for Successful Mediations and Techniques to Deal with Unprofessional Participants,” takes place on October 8, 2021.

The panel will feature alternative dispute resolution professionals who will describe the benefits of the Professionalism Principles for Lawyers and Judges, found in the Michigan Supreme Court’s Administrative Order 2020-23, and why it’s important to the ADR practice for advocates and mediators to be professional. Topics will include:

  • Why professionalism in mediation is important?
  • Examples of professionalism breakdowns in mediation-video examples.
  • Techniques to stop unprofessional behavior and return to the table.
