New Year—New Employment Challenges

Events

3.07.23 — 3.07.23 12:00 PM — 1:30 PM

If your New Year’s resolution is to be compliant with new employment laws, this program may be just what you need.

Many employment related actions have been passed, enacted, proposed, or otherwise been put into place in the preceding several months and many will be covered in this session.

The program will include discussion of the Pregnancy Fairness Act, which mandates reasonable accommodations during pregnancy and rights for nursing mothers. Other exciting developments include the Federal Trade Commission possibly banning the use of non-competes in employment. Though not in Texas yet, there continues to be an expansion in the number of jurisdictions adopting pay transparency legislation. Along with those developments, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission plans to reveal its protocol on investigating artificial intelligence based hiring that possibly reflects improper bias. Other subjects of discussion include the effects of service animals in the workplace, new rules regulating independent contractors, discrimination based on hairstyle, possible protection of obesity as a characteristic and recent cases of note.

Please bring your questions to this workshop to discuss or submit them in advance. Live Q&A during the presentation is encouraged.
