James Aldrich, a senior counsel in Dykema’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, served as General Editor of Immigration Guide 2012, published this June by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE). In addition to his editorship, Aldrich contributed six articles to this handbook. Two other Dykema lawyers—Marc Primack, a member in the Firm’s Litigation practice, and Gregory Wright, a senior attorney in the Firm’s Corporate Finance practice—authored two chapters each in this 2012 guide.

With U.S. immigration law and its workplace consequences a major topic of national debate, this book provides a comprehensive overview of U.S. immigration law as it applies to individuals who enter the U.S. and remain here legally. The guide provides essential information not only on current immigration procedures and the various types of work- and family-oriented visas that exist, but addresses such topical legal issues—relevant to every company that employs non-U.S. citizens in its workforce—as what’s needed to submit an employment-based permanent resident petition, how to handle intracompany transferees and what to do to ensure workplace enforcement of immigration rules and avoid immigration raids.
