John (Jack) P. Schaedel, Los Angeles-based member in Dykema’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, wrote about California’s Senate Bill 269 for the “New Laws 2017” feature in the Los Angeles Daily Journal.

In his article, “SB 269: Disability Access Lawsuits,” Schaedel describes the new law, which seeks to stem the huge number of frivolous lawsuits plaguing businesses which are in technical violation of the physical accommodations requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and California’s Unruh Act, even if their handicapped clients have not actually been inconvenienced. SB 269 gives the merchants a chance to rectify the problem and provides additional protections for small businesses owners.
