Jack Schaedel, Los Angeles-based member in Dykema’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, was extensively quoted in the Society for Human Resources Management article, “Two More Cities to Require Employer-Provided Transit Benefits.” The article discusses how New York City and Washington, D.C., will require employers with 20 or more employees to offer qualified pretax transportation benefits to their workers beginning on Jan.1, 2016.

In the article, Schaedel urged employers to take a good look at the positive tax advantages of offering commuter benefits. He also pointed out that the recent mandates in New York City and Washington, D.C., as well as the success of a similar program in San Francisco could possibly signal a trend, at least in cities that have subways and viable public transportation systems in place.
