Jack Schaedel to Address Leaves of Absence

Jack Schaedel, Los Angeles-based member in Dykema's Labor & Employment Practice Group, will serve as the featured speaker at "Taking the Mystery out of Leaves of Absence," an event sponsored by The San Gabriel Valley Employer Advisory Council in partnership with The California Employment Development Department. The event will take place Wednesday, July 27, 2016.

Many employers give employees paid leave, such as vacation, paid time off, and sick leave as part of their benefits package. California now requires sick leave, as do some cities. Mr. Schaedel's presentation will address employers' most common questions about Leaves of Absence, including topics such as:

• Health-related leaves: FMLA, CFRA, ADA, workers' comp and paid sick leave
• Other protected leaves: military, jury duty, "Special Needs Leaves"
• Voluntary (non-mandatory) leave: vacation, personal days, PTO and holidays
• Notification requirements
• How various types of leave interact
