Thomas (“T.J.”) Lurie primarily defends automobile manufacturers in high-stakes and complex product liability litigation. He also defends and advises clients across various industries including automotive manufacturing, construction, transportation, trucking, and public utilities. T.J. prepares every case for success at trial from wrongful death automotive product liability claims to premises liability claims.

T.J. also has commercial litigation experience in business disputes and consumer claims in the Midwest. He has drafted complex pleadings and motions — ranging from discovery to dispositive motions and appellate briefs — and managed discovery and document review and production.

T.J. has prepared liability cases for trial, including deposing accident reconstruction, medical, and fire cause and origin experts, drafting motions in limine, and reviewing medical records to determine damages. He has argued discovery and dispositive motions in both state and federal courts across the country and successfully argued in front of the Michigan Court of Appeals.

T.J. has co-authored a chapter on product liability issues related to autonomous vehicles for a treatise published by the Practising Law Institute in 2021 and co-presented on liability issues related to autonomous vehicles at a seminar for insurance adjusters sponsored by the Property and Liability Resources Board.

While in law school, T.J. served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Terrence G. Berg of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and was the Symposium Editor for The Wayne Law Review. T.J. is an avid Detroit sports fan and enjoys spending time with his family.
