Bonnie Kirkland’s wide-ranging practice includes various areas of commercial litigation such as defense of insurance disputes, breach of contract claims and business torts, with a significant focus on first-party insurance defense. Ms. Kirkland advises and assists clients on all phases of litigation, including all stages of pretrial and trial work in state and federal court.

Ms. Kirkland graduated for the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business. She then earned her J.D. from St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio, where she served on the St. Mary’s Law Journal and graduated summa cum laude.

Experience

  • First-Party Insurance Lawsuits. Kirkland plays an integral role in a team defending a national insurance provider against first-party insurance claims in Texas, including catastrophe claims resulting from weather events and coverage litigation disputes.
  • Commercial Litigation. Kirkland represents numerous companies related to breach of contract and business torts litigation in a variety industries, including healthcare, construction, and oil and gas. Ms. Kirkland’s experience includes successfully representing and obtaining a substantial arbitration award in favor of one of her commercial clients. In addition to companies and individuals, Ms. Kirkland has represented municipalities and other governmental entities in commercial disputes.
  • Federal Procurement. Ms. Kirkland represents companies related to federal procurement litigation, including claims litigation and bid protest work, before the Government Accountability Office and Court of Federal Claims.
  • Banking Litigation. Ms. Kirkland advises and counsels financial institutions on banking matters such as garnishments, subpoenas, and document requests.
  • Employment-Related Disputes. Kirkland defends companies in employment-related disputes, including discrimination and retaliation claims.  Additionally, she has represented a large municipality in the arbitration of a collective bargaining agreement.
