New Form, New Challenges: Employers' Guide to the I-9 and M-274 and Managing Employees During Time of Crisis, Cox Smith Employment and Employer Rights Workshop

Speaking Engagements

5.17.13

As expected, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has released an updated form I-9. The new form must be used by all employers beginning May 7, 2013. At the workshop you will learn how the updated Form I-9 and the revisions to the M-274 Handbook will affect your company. This workshop will help you understand the obligations under the new I-9 form and how the revised M-274 Handbook may be helpful. During this session of the workshop attendees will hear about: (i) how to use the new Form I-9: (ii) changes to the M-274 USCIS Handbook for Employers; (iii) how to use I-9 Central and the implications of the I-94 changes to the Form I-9; (iv) E-Verify implications and enforcement mechanisms; and (v) the legislative and enforcement outlook for worksite compliance.

During the second part of the workshop, we will focus on crisis management. Whether an event is intentional, accidental or an act of God, knowing how to properly respond when a crisis occurs in the workplace is critical. As recent unfortunate events have demonstrated, no employer is immune from situations where knowing how to react quickly and effectively is vital. Join us for a discussion regarding why every employer should develop a crisis management plan, including putting together the proper team to address employee concerns, work with the authorities and coordinate a communications plan.
