Erin F. Fonté, leader of Dykema’s Financial Services Regulatory and Compliance group, as well as its FinTech, Payments and Digital Commerce group, and co-leader of the firm’s Privacy and Data Security Practice Group, and  Ferdose al-Taie, member of Dykema’s Commercial Litigation Group, co-authored the Dykema NextGen Financial Services Report blog post “Treating ICOs and Cryptocurrencies the Same Way Is an Expensive Mistake,” which was also republished by PaymentsSource.

Fonté and al-Taie pool their knowledge of blockchain technology to examine the interconnection between cryptocurrencies and initial coin (or currency) offerings (ICOs). The duo discusses the evolution and varieties of bitcoins, the ICO investment climate, and the patchwork of regulations (including pertinent court cases) and official pronouncements governing cryptocurrencies.
