Many respondents expressed an industry-wide focus on legal benefits and risks tied to new electric and autonomous vehicle technologies, including increased government regulation and incentives and newly developed intellectual property. Policymakers have shown they are more than willing to invest the resources necessary to not only develop these technologies, but also, more importantly, scale them, particularly electric vehicle and battery technologies. Likewise, the industry questions whether and to what extent autonomous vehicle technology will garner legislative or regulatory attention. Outstanding questions around who owns the intellectual property for these new technologies also will need to be answered. This program will review these legal trends and more.
