Andrew J. Buczek

Government Policy Advisor

For more than 20 years, Andrew Buczek has helped clients develop effective federal legislative, regulatory, and political strategies. By building successful partnerships with the federal government, he ensures his clients have a voice in the halls of power and that their interests are effectively communicated to key decision-makers.

Andrew works with nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, local governments, and private industry across a number of issues. His practice has a particular emphasis on appropriations, tax, manufacturing, transportation, housing, science, and technology, as well as a wide array of local government and economic development projects.

Prior to joining Dykema, Andrew developed a strong understanding of the workings of Congress as a senior legislative assistant for Congressman Jim Barcia, who represented the 5th District of Michigan.

In that role, he advanced the congressman's agenda in the areas of education, energy, financial services, health care and manufacturing. Additionally, he was Congressman Barcia's designee to the House Science Committee, where he served as the congressman's principal advisor on science and technology policy.

In addition to his policy work, Andrew worked on behalf of numerous campaigns and national conventions. This includes national party conventions dating back to 1996, with responsibilities ranging from organizing and scheduling more than 1,000 volunteers in the transportation division to assisting dignitaries attending the convention.

He also serves as a member of Dykema's Political Action Committee Board.

How can I be the best advocate for my client? Knowing people in government isn’t enough. You have to understand how decisions are made. You have to understand the underlying politics. And you have to be strategic about how to look out for your client’s interests.
