Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced that Michelle Lange has joined the firm as a Government Policy Advisor in the firm’s Lansing office. Lange joins Dykema after seven years with the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB), most recently serving as the department’s Director for more than four years.

Lange brings more than 20 years of experience driving strategic initiatives across state government, higher education, and legislative affairs. She is widely recognized for delivering innovative solutions in procurement, technology, and public service. As Director of DTMB, Lange oversaw the State of Michigan’s $1.7 billion departmental budget and led a portfolio that includes the state’s enterprise IT services, facilities,  real estate operations, and the state’s significant contracts portfolio.

In her role at Dykema, Lange will focus on state and local procurement advocacy and working on behalf of clients with the state agencies. Her deep experience navigating complex procurement systems, coupled with longstanding relationships across state agencies and executive offices, positions her to help clients identify opportunities, manage risk, and advance strategic objectives in Michigan and beyond.

“Michelle’s addition represents a significant expansion of our government affairs platform, particularly in the increasingly critical area of procurement,” said Alan Wilk, Leader of Dykema’s Government Policy and Practice Group. “She brings a rare combination of executive-level operational experience, bipartisan credibility, and a vast network of government relationships. Her insight into how state government actually works—especially around procurement and technology—will be invaluable to clients seeking to do business with the State of Michigan and other public sector entities.”

During her tenure at DTMB, Lange served as a member of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s cabinet and played a central role in advancing Michigan’s enterprise technology and procurement strategies. Under her leadership, the department received national recognition for excellence in digital government and procurement services, including multiple Gold George Cronin Awards and top ratings from the Center for Digital Government. She also previously served in senior roles in the Executive Office of Governor Rick Snyder, the Michigan Senate, and as State Relations Director at Oakland University.

Lange received her J.D. and B.A. in Political Science from Michigan State University.
