Bonnie Mayfield, Bloomfield Hills-based Member in Dykema’s Labor and Employment practice group, was quoted in the SHRM article, “EEOC Must Follow Certain Steps Before Filing a Systemic Bias Suit.”
The article describes the steps the EEOC must follow when a charge of discrimination or retaliation is made by a worker, as the agency does not have the authority to bring a lawsuit on its own without following certain steps. Mayfield urged companies to have an open-door policy and to attempt to resolve employee matters with supervisors first before the issue becomes a lawsuit “…as soon as the issue arises.”
