Paul M. Laurenza, Office Managing Member of the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office—whose practice includes representation of clients in the automotive, consumer product and other manufactured goods sectors on matters often involving product safety regulation and liability—was a featured presenter at the Fourth Summit on the Future of the Connected Vehicle. This two-day conference, held on September 9-10, 2013, was hosted by the Connected Vehicle Trade Association (CVTA) with event partner and sponsor, the Michigan Department of Transportation.

In opening his presentation, Laurenza—who has been involved with connected vehicles since 2005 and currently serves as the CVTA’s Vice Chairman—noted that the question he’s asked most frequently (especially by reporters) is, “When connected vehicles or automated vehicles crash, who’s going to be liable?”

Laurenza’s presentation addresses such topics as:

  • he realities and misperceptions of connected vehicle liability matters;
  • whether existing laws can adequately guide liability cases that involve connected vehicles; and,
  • what learnings might be gleaned from other transportation sectors (rail/transit, aviation, maritime) and applied to connected vehicle cases
