Paul Laurenza to Serve as Featured Speaker at ACI Consumer Products Regulation and Litigation Conference

Two-Day Event to Feature Prominent Leaders from Federal Regulatory Agencies, In-House and Outside Counsel, Industry Associations and Consumer Products Companies

May 21, 2013

Paul M. Laurenza, Office Managing Member of the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office—whose practice includes representation of manufacturers, importers and retailers on product safety and other regulatory compliance and enforcement matters before the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and other agencies, will serve as a featured speaker at the American Conference Institute’s (ACI) Consumer Products Regulation and Litigation Conference. This two-day event, which will take place in Chicago on June 26-27, 2013, will focus on the increased regulatory attention placed upon the consumer products industry and provide guidance to help manufacturers, importer and retailers balance regulatory compliance and litigation risks.

In a panel discussion that kicks off this two-day conference, Laurenza and two fellow panelists—one of whom served both as a U.S. Congresswoman and a CPSC Commissioner—will discuss, “Managing Company Risk of Administrative Actions, Working Around the CPSC Database and Responding to Aggressive Investigations.” In this 75-minute presentation, the three will outline such vitally important realms as:

  • Factors that lead to mandatory recalls
  • Steps to avoid penalties
  • What it means for your company when hit with an administrative action
  • How plaintiff’s attorneys use the CPSC Database
  • Pre-emptive measures that can help mitigate risk
  • How to analyze the culpability implications of settlement with the CPSC
  • Key lessons learned from recent enforcement actions

The conference is aimed at consumer product executives who focus on regulatory matters (among them: general counsel, litigation counsel, quality assurance, government relations and product safety directors), and government and law firm attorneys whose practices center on consumer product safety, product liability and litigation. The event is CLE-accredited (9.25 to 11 credit hours for the event, and 2-3 additional hours for participation in the two workshops that bracket the event).
