Jake Vollebregt

Senior Counsel

Standing squarely at the intersection of law, business, and technology, Jake Vollebregt brings unique and valuable perspectives to his practice, counseling corporate clients across a wide range of industries on complex commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, data privacy and cybersecurity, and other essential matters.

Leveraging the experience and leadership he acquired as a judge advocate and intelligence officer in the United States Marine Corps, Jake is adept at identifying risks, developing and spearheading strategic initiatives, and marshaling the resources needed to provide his clients with comprehensive yet tailored representation. His public and private sector background, along with his demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse disciplines and teams, have facilitated his success across a variety of engagements.

Jake is Senior Counsel in Dykema’s Corporate Finance Practice Group and Business Services Department. Clients across the finance, technology, real estate, education, healthcare, and critical infrastructure sectors rely on Jake’s aptitude for anticipating potential issues and obstacles that could stand in the way of their business objectives and his ability to seek out and design solutions. While these qualities manifest in his extensive corporate and transactional work, they are particularly apparent in cybersecurity and enterprise information security matters.

Jake is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). As a Marine, Jake was extensively involved in global cyber and information security matters while serving as an intelligence officer and judge advocate. This experience gave him first-hand insights into the methods that increasingly sophisticated threat actors can use to exploit and manipulate information. He is attuned to the imperative of protecting such assets and the need for holistic, enterprise-wide data protection programs as well as response and remediation protocols that minimize the legal, financial, and reputational fallout from data breaches, cyberattacks, and similar incidents.

Jake’s wide-ranging experience also includes serving as counsel for California cities, water districts, joint powers authorities, and other public agencies, including as Director of Regional and Legal Affairs at Moulton Niguel Water District. He currently serves as a board member of the FBI InfraGard San Antonio Members Alliance and sits on the Cybersecurity Council for the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

Good business representation transcends siloed perspectives by integrating cross-disciplinary expertise through a broader, holistic lens. Leading, coordinating, and maximizing the benefits of talented, collaborative teams are indispensable for effective counsel.
