Drew D. Van de Grift

Senior Attorney

When state and local governments encounter challenges, Drew's experience guides smart solutions. Drew's prior work as legal counsel and later as budget director for the 19th largest county in the country means that he not only knows local government law, but he's done the work too. When a client needs a creative financial solution, representation in high-stakes litigation, or strategic restructuring from the ground up, Drew has a demonstrated history of success.

When results matter, clients appreciate Drew's low-pressure approach and prior experience representing all manner of public clients. From victories in nationally reported elections lawsuits to representation of a public retirement system with more than a billion dollars under management, Drew commands a broad understanding of the law and practice of state and local government.

Drew worked on a team to financially restructure 13 Michigan municipalities during his years working for the Michigan Department of Treasury. As a direct result, clients now benefit from Drew’s understanding of state regulations concerning debt matters, millage levies, budgetary best practices, and strategic considerations for public retirement systems.

As a former budget director who used to budget for debt service expenses, I am laser focused on getting it right, on time, with a debt structure that sets the client up for success.
