Michael J. Durrschmidt

Senior Counsel

Always striving to be the most prepared, hardest-working lawyer in the room, Mike Durrschmidt brings a potent combination of zealous advocacy and strategic diplomacy to his well-established creditors' rights, bankruptcy, and banking practice. Mike's reputation as both a seasoned practitioner and trustworthy straight shooter facilitates his ability to consistently craft favorable resolutions for his clients.

Board certified since 1990 in Business Bankruptcy by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Mike represents lenders, suppliers, landlords, and lessors in cases related to workouts, debt restructures, bankruptcy, state and federal collection and lien priority litigation, real and personal property foreclosures, and repossessions.

Mike's extensive experience in business bankruptcy includes acquisitions and disposition of business lines and assets in bankruptcy cases, prosecuting numerous contested stay litigation matters, and successfully contesting or confirming plans of reorganization. He has also prosecuted and defended several trials involving discharge/dischargeability and exemption issues and prosecuted trials regarding various financial matters in state and federal courts.

Mike has successfully represented numerous businesses in restructures and bankruptcy proceedings. These companies have included law firms, hospitals, real estate developers, manufacturing companies, and retailers. He also represents business owners in all aspects of the restructuring or reorganization process.

The value Mike adds to his clients manifests in multiple ways, not the least of which is his unwavering focus on their ultimate goals. He eschews tangential issues or inconsequential disputes to keep the spotlight on core issues, leading to more efficient and expeditious resolutions.

As a certified mediator and experienced advocate, Mike understands that the dollars-and-cents calculus and legal analysis involved in bankruptcies, workouts, and other efforts to deal with distressed debtors are only part of the picture. By taking the time to understand not only his clients' motivations, concerns, and objectives but also those of other stakeholders, he finds common ground among divergent interests. In turn, this yields positive returns for his clients, who emerge from potentially perilous situations in the best possible positions.

A frequent speaker and presenter on bankruptcy and related issues, Mike is regularly recognized by his peers for his professional accomplishments. His impressive tally of awards and accolades speaks to the respect he has earned among his colleagues in the bankruptcy bar.

Bankruptcies and workouts inherently involve multiple parties who come to the table with their own interests and priorities. While those of my clients are always indisputably paramount, understanding where other parties are coming from can be the key to getting the desired result.
